Why have I been referred for a Pension Safeguarding Guidance appointment and what should I expect?
- A pension safeguarding guidance appointment is a free and impartial service provided by MoneyHelper to raise awareness of potential scams when transferring pension savings.
- The appointment will usually last 30 minutes.
- All pension providers are legally required to refer members to MoneyHelper for certain types of transfers.
- We review each transfer for possible risk of scams and your specific circumstances will be discussed during your appointment.
- If you’re asked to book an appointment, it is mandatory to do so and provide us with evidence that you have attended it. We legally can’t complete your transfer without this evidence of attendance.
- You’ll have the chance to speak to a specialist about your pension transfer.
- You’ll get:
- guidance to help you identify if you’re at risk of being scammed
- information on additional checks you can make to help you feel confident in your decisions
- a summary of the dangers of pension scams
- Appointments are by referral only and can be made free of charge online or by phone.
- If we identify that you need an appointment for your transfer, we’ll provide you with booking instructions via your Nest secure mailbox or by post.
- Once you’ve had your appointment, you’ll receive an email with a unique reference number. Please provide this to us, so we can complete your transfer.
