Accessibility

We’re committed to providing appropriate, accessible content, whatever device you use.

Our website has been developed following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Version 2 (WCAG2), published by International Standards Organisation W3C. We meet most of the requirements for their Level A criteria as well as many from both Level AA and some at Level AAA, including the ability to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

If you have problems using a computer or device because of a disability, the AbilityNet site has lots of advice on how to make it easier to browse the web.

For visual impairment

For our logged in site, select the A+ button at the top of the page to increase text size.

To increase text size on your internet browser, go to the ‘Settings’ menu. Depending on which browser you use (for example Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer), you’ll find the text size option under ‘Preferences’ or ‘View’.

Most browsers also have a text-to-speech function under their ‘Settings’ menu that reads out any text that’s on the screen.

For help with PDF documents

You can download a free version of Adobe Reader to read PDF documents.

Adobe Reader allows you to extract the text of an Adobe PDF document and save it as a text file. This may be useful if you want to read the document on a note-taker or emboss the file with a Braille printer.

For help with MS Office

Our downloadable files on the site include Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. If you need help with these programmes, the Microsoft site has detailed information on Word accessibility support, Excel accessibility support and PowerPoint accessibility support

For hearing and speech difficulties

All the videos on our website use closed captions, so you’re able to read everything that’s being said.

We support phone calls with text relay or talk type and recommend Next Generation Text, a regulated text relay service. You also have the option to add a delegate to manage your account for you.

To navigate the site without a mouse

You can use the arrow and tab keys to navigate the website. The tab key can also be used to fill out our online forms.

For braille, large font, audio material

Log into your Nest account and send us a secure message to make your request. We aim to get back to you within two days.
