How to enrol your workers

Enrolling your workers with Nest is simple and our guidance is here to support you every step of the way.

Not sure which workers to enrol? Don’t worry, we make it easy for you to understand how to assess your workers.

The information we need

To enrol your workers you need to tell us some information about each one. This includes a worker’s personal details, like date of birth and National Insurance number, and details about enrolment, like the date you put them into Nest.

You can find a full list of the information you need to gather in our help centre.

Ways to enrol your workers

Once you’ve got the information ready you can then choose how you’ll enrol your workers. You have several options – all of them are quick, straightforward and can be completed from your online Nest account.

Your options are:

  • manually entering the information for each worker – this is a good option if you’re a small business
  • use a file upload – this will save you time if you have lots of workers to enrol at once
  • direct exchange of data through payroll software – this is offered by many of the leading payroll providers

More information about all these options is available in our help centre.

When you enrol your workers, you must decide which group you’ll assign them to. Groups are a way to categorise your workers in your Nest account.

You might only need one group. You’ll have to set up more than one if:

  • the workers you enrol have different pay periods, for example, some are paid weekly and others monthly
  • you’re paying different contribution rates and using a different earnings basis for certain workers

We’ve put together everything you need to know about groups in our help centre.
